This month has been a busy one for the Graduate Programs in Public Health at UNE! Various faculty and staff members were in attendance at three different events – two local Maine Public Health conferences, and a national conference in Denver, Colorado.
At each event our program staff noticed a strong trend toward students actively seeking out Public Health programs delivered 100% online. Doors have flown open for Amber Auger since earning her MPH online at UNE. Growing up in a single parent family, Amber was taught from a young age to to value education. “My mom wanted me to get a great education so I wouldn’t have to work three jobs every day, like she did.” says Amber.
Amber took her mom’s advice to heart. It was at a very young age that Amber decided that dental hygiene would be the direction that she would take her career. She’d always been interested in dental health, and she later came to realize that choosing that career came with the added benefits of great pay and a flexible schedule.

NACCHO’s Annual Conference, the largest gathering of local health department leaders and other public health professionals in the US, was held in Phoenix in late July this year.
UNE attended as an exhibitor in order to add value to the conference conversation, network with fellow public health professionals, and learn more about the latest public health topics. It was wonderful to see many familiar faces from last year.
The conference is always a great opportunity for local health department staff, partners, and individuals interested in local public health to share their latest research and ideas, and test their assumptions about the issues and topics around local public health.
The theme of the NACCHO public health conference this year… Read more >>
