Keeping Our Expectations High Using Trauma and Resilience Informed Teaching and Learning (TRITL)
Principles

Presenter: Krysten Gorrivan, Assistant Teaching Professor, M.S. Ed.

Trauma tends to evoke an empathetic response in classroom teachers, as it should. But does this mean we lower our expectations for students living with adversity because we feel sorry for them?  Or do we enable them to take unlimited breaks throughout the school day because we don't want to add another stressor to their lives?  Just the opposite.  This presentation will provide the theory behind TRITL and move to practical application of the principles you can use right away in an educational setting using case studies as the foundation for the presentation.
