Technical Requirements for UNE Online

To ensure a smooth and successful online learning experience, UNE Online has established the following technical requirements. If you have questions at any point, our team is here to help.

What You’ll Need to Get Started

These requirements help ensure a smooth, uninterrupted online learning experience, whether you’re completing coursework or taking proctored exams.

General Technical Requirements

  • Reliable access to a computer and internet connection
  • Internet speed of at least 1.5 Mbps upload/download (4 Mbps recommended)
  • Webcam (minimum 1280 x 720 resolution recommended)
  • Microphone and speakers
  • Access to Microsoft Office (provided free via your @une.edu account)
  • Access to a scanner or mobile scanning app

Important Notes:

  • Employer-issued devices, public computers, or shared networks may limit functionality
  • You can test your internet speed at Speedtest.net

Additional Requirements for Science Prerequisite Courses

Students enrolled in science prerequisite courses for health professions should also have:

  • UNE-approved external webcam with wide-angle lens (for proctored exams)
  • Stable internet connection (minimum 1.5 Mbps download / 750 Kbps upload)
  • Access to an internal or external optical drive
  • USB port or USB-to-USB-C adapter

Please note: Some operating systems (such as macOS Catalina) may require additional software to run certain course tools.

Computer Proficiency

To succeed in an online learning environment, students should be comfortable with basic computer skills, including:

  • Using a keyboard, mouse, and web browser
  • Sending and receiving email
  • Working in Microsoft Office or similar tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Uploading files and navigating course platforms
  • Recording and uploading video presentations
  • Managing files in various formats (.docx, .pdf, .pptx)
  • Installing and updating software
  • Performing basic troubleshooting (clearing cache, resetting browser settings)
  • Conducting internet searches and navigating URLs

Students in science prerequisite courses should also be comfortable adjusting webcam settings and using external devices when required.
