Spotlight on the Applied Nutrition Trends & Issues Student Blog
One of the goals of the online nutrition masters degree at UNE Online is to prepare individuals for leadership roles in the field of nutrition. We do this by advancing knowledge and expanding skills that promote excellence and innovation in all areas of nutrition practice. The program also fosters an emphasis on evidence-based best practices to support the wellbeing and health outcomes of individuals, families, and communities through education, research, and service.
One of the ways our students in the Applied Nutrition program demonstrate thought leadership and expand their skills in the field of nutrition is through blogging.
Transferring skill sets
Authoring scholarly papers is a skill that students in the University of New England Online’s MS in Applied Nutrition hone throughout their entire program. Scientific papers are essential to the cause of advancing knowledge and are something that nutrition professionals enjoy reading, but they’re not necessarily user-friendly or appealing to a wider audience.
The general public does not relate well to long, formal discourses that include multiple references and pages of writing. Being able to translate scientific literature into a format that is attractive to laypeople is a valuable skill set in today’s nutrition field. One of the outcomes of the MS in Applied Nutrition is being able to give valid and relatable nutrition guidance, and as such, effective communication is key.
