Workshop Description:

The work you do is hard and vitally important! Leaning about how to care for your professional self is critical in order to prevent burnout and promote efficacy and longevity in the work you do. In this fully asynchronous workshop, you will examine basics related to burnout, compassion fatigue, and self-care as well as learn and develop strategies to evaluate your own self-care needs and the efficacy of your self-care routine. You will also create a customized self-care plan that can help you prioritize and build self-care into your work day and personal life.

Objectives:

  • Define self-care, burnout, compassion fatigue and trauma stewardship and the role they play in social work practice
  • Recognize self-care and trauma stewardship as an ethical responsibility and integral part of the helping professions
  • Examine general self-care practices and strategies
  • Assess and evaluate own self-care practices
  • Learn how to develop personal and professional strategies to advance and prioritize self care

Expectations:

This training includes four one-hour modules consisting of:

  • Recorded lecture
  • Readings and other materials
  • Self-Assessments

Modules:

  • Module 1 – Define self-care, burnout, compassion fatigue, and trauma stewardship and the role they play in social work and related practice
  • Module 2 – Recognize self-care and trauma stewardship as an ethical responsibility and integral part of the helping professions
  • Module 3 – Examine general self-care practices and strategies; Assess and evaluate the efficacy of your self-care practices
  • Module 4 – How to develop personal and professional strategies to advance and prioritize self-care

Training Completion:

This course is not graded with a letter or number grade, however, in order to receive the certificate of completion, you must participate in and complete all of the required assignments prior to the closing of the course.
