Dr. Coccoma earned an MSW from Adelphi University and a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. Originally from New York and now residing in North Carolina, she has been an active social worker practicing at various levels within mental health organizations in her career. She has been teaching clinical social work at the graduate level for 15 years. Her research and scholarly interest is in Mental Health, Social Work Ethics and Trauma Informed Care. She maintains a private clinical social work practice and is a Board Certified TeleMental Health Provider.

Dr. Coccoma earned her MSW degree from Adelphi University in Long Island, New York and a Doctorate in Education (Counseling Psychology) from Argosy University Sarasota, Florida.
Originally from New York, her social work career included multiple positions from a social worker to Assistant Executive Director at a large child caring agency providing services and program development addressing the mental health needs of children, families and adults. She has taught in MSW/BSW accreditated programs for 15 years in state and private university settings. Additionally, she is an active clinician maintaining a private clinical social work practice providing psychotherapy to adults and families. She has been active member of NASW throughout her career.
Her research focus has been in trauma, trauma informed care, ethics and mental health. She has published in peer reviewed journals and co-authored a book entitled “Trauma Informed Care: How Neuroscience influences Practice” (Routledge Taylor & Francis Group). Additionally, she has lectured on topics including social work ethics, and adolescent mental health.
