Responding to the Complex Needs of Students:

Responding to the Complex Needs of Students: Helping Without Burning Out

Workshop Description:

Educators, social workers, and counselors are often called upon to respond to a variety of complex needs and challenges that their students may have. Naturally, there is a strong desire to want to support students to succeed, to grow, and to thrive. However, when resources are limited and needs exceed school personnel’s role or scope of practice, this can have an impact on the resilience and motivation of staff over time. This symposium module will explore strategies for providing trauma-informed care to students while also applying a trauma-informed lens to caring for oneself and for one’s community of colleagues.
