MLK Day Celebration

Today is a day of remembrance, honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and the struggle for freedom, equality, and justice.

We pause to reflect on our own actions, interactions, and our impact on others. We reaffirm our commitment and dedication to cultivating an inclusive educational environment. We commit to fostering a culture of open inquiry, free expression, and respectful debate. We celebrate members of our community who embody these values.

At UNE, we are gathering to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of creating a Beloved Community. The celebration features keynote speaker Melissa Hue ’15, MPH ’20, director of the Office of Economic Opportunity for the city of Portland. Hue, a two-time UNE alumna, will share insights on continuing King’s legacy of empowering community builders to address needs within their contemporary Maine communities.
